Deactivate My Facebook Account Temporarily – Close FB Account
Facebook doesn't make it easy to find the link to deactivate your Facebook account, but deactivating Facebook can be accomplished with ease once you know just where to look for it.
Firstly, be clear about whether you want to suspend or delete your Facebook account. Facebook calls a temporary account suspension, deactivating and permanent suspension, deleting. There's a whole world of difference between deactivating and deleting.
Deactivating merely suspends your Facebook account until you sign back in. Your profile and data will be invisible to others until you reactivate your account, but Facebook saves it all in case you want to return. Deleting, by contrast, permanently erases your account (though it takes at least two weeks to make that happen).
Before you start either process, be sure to remove any link you may have to other websites or accounts that use Facebook to connect. That's so you don't get logged into Facebook automatically and accidentally undo your Facebook deactivation because as we said, it takes approximately two weeks.
Okay, let's get started on deactivating your Facebook account.
ON YOUR BROWSER
- First, you need to log in to your Facebook account by entering your Facebook details.
- Once you log in, click on in the top right of Facebook
- A drop-down menu will appear where you need to select the “Settings” option.
- Then, select the ''Your Facebook Information'' tab from the left panel of the screen.
- At the bottom of the page, you’ll find the ''Deactivation and Deletion'' option. Click on it.
- After clicking the option, a tab will be opened where you will be prompted to ''Continue to Account Deactivation''
- A new page will be open, where you need to enter the password.
- After entering a password, click on the ‘Continue’ button.
- You’ll be directed to a new page, where you need to tell the reason behind your deactivation.
- After filling the prompt information, click on the ‘Deactivate’ button for deactivation.
- Facebook will once again ask you to confirm your decision to deactivate Facebook account. Click on the ''Deactivate Now'' button to immediately Deactivate Facebook account.
ON YOUR FACEBOOK APP
- Log into your Facebook app and tap on the menu button at the top far right (for Android users) or bottom right (for iOS device users)
- Scroll down to ''Settings & Privacy'' and click on ''Privacy Shortcuts''.
- Scroll down to ''Your Facebook Information'' and tap on ''Delete your Account and Information'', this will take you to another page where you will be asked to make a choice between Deactivating or Deleting. Depending on your choice, tap on ''Continue to Account Deactivation'' or ''Continue to Account Deletion'' and follow the on-screen prompts.
Facebook's FAQ pages explain that your profile and the info linked to it have disappeared from viewing, so your profile is no longer searchable and your friends no longer see your Wall.
However, all that information gets saved by Facebook, including your friends, photo albums, and any groups you joined. Facebook says it does this in case you change your mind and want to use Facebook again in the future.
"A lot of people deactivate their accounts for temporary reasons and expect their profiles to be there when they return to the service," says the Facebook help page on deactivation.
